What a week we had!
What a wonderful first week of virtual camp! Camp Rodef Shalom is so lucky to have such a creative and caring team of staff. This week couldn’t have happened without the wonderful specialist, bunk, elective, and Camp in a Box staff! Round of applause to these people; you made virtual camp possible!
We started off the week with our first virtual bunk calls for prek-8th grade! We had 16 bunk calls on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with over 150 campers calling in! Campers and counselors got to know their new bunkmates, while doing some cool activities like creative straw art, Israeli dance, making bouncy balls, jamming with music, silly debates in drama, Jewish trivia, learning to be strong leaders, brain teasers and cursive name drawing. Who knew you could do all these fun things on Zoom?
On Wednesday we got the whole group together and challenged everyone to complete a 20 question scavenger hunt. Afterwards, we got to jam out with our music specialists for our first concert! On Fridays we got to meet new friends and sing together for Shabbat.
This week we also launched our camp electives. We had about 15 classes with unique topics like Dungeons and Dragons, Minecraft, cooking, creative writing and outdoor adventures. People could also sign up for even more games, mad science, art, and dance if they didn’t get enough in their bunk! We hope to see some kindness rocks laying around our neighborhoods after this week. We are already excited to build on what we learned last week and become experts in…SO MANY THINGS!
Our first round of Camp in a Box sold out in less than 2 days. Campers got to make their own animal magnets, crinkle paper fish, stain glass art, and Greek pottery art. We have even more awesome activities for next week like foam paint, make your own race cars, a ping pong cannon, and a stellar constellation viewer.
Wow, what a week! It is pretty amazing to see what all we were able to accomplish. I can’t wait to see everyone for week 2 and experience even more of the magic of Camp 2020!
